Viagra is a medicine used in cases of impotence in order to widen blood vessels and encourage blood inflow into penis which is needed for its hardening (erection). It is only used when a man is sexually excited.

How taken

Viagra is taken 1hr before sexual contact. This medicine is only taken on this occasion once a day but not regularly.

Dosages vary from 25 to 100mg, the average and the most common dose is 50mg.The doctor will choose a suitable dose for each patient individually depending on his health state.

Precautions

1 Viagra can not be used if medications based on nitrates are being taken.

2 Viagra must not be used by women or children.

4 If you experience dizziness, giddiness, pain in the chest or vomiting during the sexual contact, stop taking the medicine and check with your doctor if the medicine is safe enough for you.

5 Viagra does not protect from any diseases transmitted via sexual contact.

6 Eye problems, diabetes, smoking, stomach ulcer, bleeding disorder, age over 50 are the conditions the doctor has to take into consideration when prescribing the medicine as you’ll have to be very careful during the treatment.

7 Make sure the doctor is aware of the medical problems you have such as leukemia, sickle cell anemia, genital problems, multiple myeloma as they may lead to prolonged and painful erection called priapism.

8 If taking an alpha-blocking medicine, do not take 50 or 100mg of Viagra within a period of time that equals to 4hrs of taking this drug.

9 You have to be careful when taking Viagra together with:

Saquinavir

Alpha-blockers

Ketoconazole

Cimetidine

Ketoconazole

Ritonavir

Erythromycin

Rifampin

Itraconazole

Side effects

If side effects occur, let the doctor know about it immediately. There are vision problems, diarrhea, running nose, headache and urinary infection. Among more serious ones there is irregular heartbeat, blood pressure surges, heart attack.

Storage

Ø Keep away form moisture, freezing and high temperatures

Ø Store at room temperature

Ø Keep out of the reach of children

Ø Do not keep an outdated medicine

Overdose

Cases of overdose haven’t been observed.
